Lancet report August 2004.
The Lancet Report on Emerging Pathogens : MAP / Crohns / Johnes Disease.
The Lancet released its's findings on the problem of Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis - zoonotic (MAP) LAST WEEK 02/08/04.Opening paragraph points to the DEFRA Document that this Campaign has been involved with in 2002 AND 2004.This document was due to be released at the end of June ,but is now being released to the farming community at the end of August or (mid September ?).
Copies of this Lancet report were sent to every "chair " of the NACC by this Campaign, all would now have been received.
"Recent advances in diagnostic address the historical scepticism about MAP causing Crohns Disease.The NOD2 genetic defect, which is associated with Crohns Disease, predisposes to intracellular bacterial infection".
"In patients with Crohns Disease ,MAP DNA has been detected by PCR in up to 90%b of cases, by in-situ hybridisation in 70% of cases,and by RT-PCR for MAP RNA in 100% of cases.MAP has also been cultured from human milk ,faeces, intestinal tissue, and peripheral blood of patients with Crohns Disease.Additionally ,MAP specific serological tests are significantly more often in Crohns Disease patients than in controls".
"With the final Defra guidelines (see breaking news 4 ) ,the UK Government and dairy Industry will take an essential 1st to combat Johne's Disease.Widespread implementation of the guidelines will improve animal health and welfare,and profitability in farms.It might additionally benefit Food Safety and Human Health".
This Campaign is determined to keep up the pressure to the UK Government to make sure these DEFRA Guidelines are carried out,and the Dairy Industry finally take responsibility for it's mess,and also turn up the pasteurisation temperature to 80 degrees which is the known temperature that kills the MAP Bacteria.This is the last line of defence before milk is available to the consumer,making sure the MAP Bacteria is dead and we can, if we wish,drink milk without getting Crohns Disease.More and more dairy herds are becoming infected with MAP,and the increase in Crohns victims has also risen,especially amongst our children, who are encouraged to drink more milk for better health and nutrition at school and in advertising.Also you pregnant mums who read this, you and your unborn child are also at risk,until things are changed.Water supplies will still become contaminated with MAP,as will the Environment, and many other animals, such as deer, sheep and goats.
There is to be more positive research coming in from Australia and America ,shortly,backing these findings.More supportive findings have already come from a leading scientist releasing his independant research in Phoenix - Arizona - USA.
It is important now that the Public here in the UK are told the truth about a problem with another food (milk), as we all know what has happened with the BSE/CJD scandal,and in my opinion this Crohns/Johnes /MAP problem is and will be far worse and far bigger ,and if left unchecked it will eventually play a devastating effect on many more of the population of this Country and all those European Countries and America.i know the figures run into many millions across Europe and here it is far in excess of 250.000.
A fact that keeps haunting me is that the EC gives £54 million to the Dairy industry here to give free milk to children at school, knowing it can give them Crohns Disease.
